Artist |
Toulouse-Lautrec, Henri Marie |
A remarkable portrait for a boy of eighteen. It was probably painted in the garden of one of Lautrec's country homes at Celeyran of Malrome. It was an Impressionist exercise , full of vivacious brushwork and dappled light. The expressive accents of the taciturn head, however , already suggest a forceful artistic personality and prefigure Lautrec's dramatic feeling for type. |
